Happy Birthday and a Magical New Year


Life is Magic not Logic

It's my Birthday this month :)
38 years on this planet! 38 years around the sun!!

What major changes this planet has gone through in just the last 38 years…
For instance, when I was born we had black and white TV sets (if at all, as TV broadcasting in Israel only started in 1968), telephones, with no answering machines, that required moving your whole hand to actually rotate the dial (then I could remember phone numbers off by heart - today I don't even remember my mother's cell number!). We handwrote letters to people overseas that took at least a week to arrive, and we were actually excited to see the mailman (today we prefer not to see him/her as it's usually only the delivery of a bill of some sort). We ate meals sitting down with our families and the food was actually FOOD! Locally and organically grown, cooked in our own kitchen. Not laboratory/factory created, not hormone and antibiotic pumped, not genetically modified, nor pesticide/herbicide/insecticide sprayed. Not grown on the other side of the planet, created and boxed in some factory, flown/shipped/driven to the store and sitting on the shelf for months before warmed in the microwave (a dangerous machine, by the way) and popped into our mouths … Wow!
(and this is just the tip of the iceberg, or as we say in Hebrew, "the tip of the fork").
What things have changed since you were born?

With the way I am living and eating now I probably will live to way past a 100 rotations (knock on wood), but do I even want to live that long?!
Well, as long as I'll be healthy, happy, doing what I love and being with people I care about … which I will be … why not!! A good question to ask ourselves is: Why do we want to be healthy? What are we actually living for?

This year's goal:
Let's make this year

The first step in reaching what we want and making our life the best ever is to be Clear: getting in touch with our desires, from relationships to material possessions to feelings to vacations — anything and everything. Chances are better we will actually get it.

This month it is Rosh Hashana - the Jewish New Year. Let's make a list of what we really want to create for ourselves this coming year:
A desire list
Don't hold back – be imaginative, creative and let the magic of life unfold.

Step 1: make a chart with 3 columns: Desire, Done!, Gratitude.

Step 2: Start by listing your desires. You can begin simply. You will notice that more ideas will come to you once you focus. Use any language you are comfortable with, such as “I want…” or “I desire…” or “I intend…”
Example: I want to go to Thailand for two weeks.

Step 3: When you complete a desire, put a checkmark (“V”) in the “done!” column and then write a thank-you note to whoever helped you complete your desire. You might be thanking yourself.
Example: Thank you, Mom.

Step 4: Put the list in a place where you see it, such as on your
refrigerator and add to it as you wish.

Step 5: Be patient. Know that it might take time to complete your list. Enjoy the process of fulfilling your desires and know that when you are clear about what you want, you are supported in getting it!

Food Focus: Cacao – one of the Magical foods

In order to live a magical life we have to put magical foods into our body. Imagine what would happen if you would put the wrong type of gasoline in your car. Similarly, there is no way we can eat junk food and have happy, inspiring, creative thoughts and feelings. If you live on junk food you'll have a junky life. "U R what U eat" is right these days more than ever. The clients I work with usually experience amazing shifts in their moods, thoughts, happiness, awareness, energy level and overall life as they change their diet.

So let's talk chocolate. What I actually mean is cacao – the bean of the cacao tree from which real chocolate is made. This is one of the most magical foods we can find. Human use of the cacao seeds may go back in time up to 15,000 years ago, beginning in South America. It is the number 1 source for Magnesium (the most deficient mineral in people's diets today), contains Iron, Chromium (which stabilizes blood sugar levels and moods), it balances brain chemistry, strengthens bones, is one of the foods most rich in antioxidants (way more than red wine and green tea), is great for the heart and brain, is a natural laxative, hormone balancer and more…
Makes us feel happy, in love and relaxed since it raises levels of serotonin, dopamine and phenylethylamine (the love chemical).


Recipe of the Month:
New Years Apple Pie with Cacao

Serves: 8 - 10

1 1/2 cups of sunflower seeds
1 cup raisins
Juice of 1/2 an orange
1 thin slice of lemon including the peel (discard seeds)
2 Tablespoons of cacao powder or crushed cacao beans

Place all ingredients in food processor until finely ground and mixture sticks together. Press into 8 inch/ 20 cm pie plate. Push crust right up to the edges.

4 large apples, cored and seeded and cut into quarters (no need to peel)
1/2 cup agave nectar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Juice of 1/2 lemon

In food processor, process 2 apples for about 1 minute. Add remaining apples with all other ingredients. Process until everything is combined and chopped into small pieces but not mushed. Strain off excess juice (you can use the sweet juice in a morning shake or for another recipe).
Put the mixture into the pie crust and smooth out.

Can be eaten in two ways :
1. Raw – for the raw foodists: Place in fridge for 1 hour to set (recommended: use saran wrap to line the pan and cover the filling – makes it easier to flatten out and remove when slicing)
2. Baked: bake at 180C/350F for about 45 minutes

Decorate with a choice of : shredded coconut, ice cream, tehini paste with honey, cinnamon powder or ground cacao beans and honey.
