Freedom – The Courage To Be Yourself

OSHO

Wow!! We have just completed one full circle! My first Newsletter came out April 2008 and here we are again - springtime, a full year later: Passover is almost here. Time once again “to leave Egypt!”. The symbolism (putting Judaism aside) of our “inner Egypt”. To let go of more of those things that burden and enslave us. To take another step towards more freedom in our lives.

For me, this past year has been one long, short, wonderful, growing, exciting, hard, easy, surprising, full of faith … leaving of Egypt. It is amazing the vitality and empowerment that these breakthroughs can bring to our lives.
And as the saying in Hebrew goes, "Ve’od Hayad Netuya" = “And still, the hand is stretched out”. Yes, I am out of the desert, but there is still a journey ahead and much work to be done.

Liberation

All of us occasionally reach a point when 'enough is enough'. At such times it seems we must do something, anything, to throw off the burdens and restrictions that are limiting us (even if later it appears it might have been a mistake).

If you too are now feeling that 'enough is enough', then allow yourself to take the risk of shattering the old patterns and limitations that have kept your energy from flowing.

Imagine dew drops on a flower early in the morning, sliding down, surrendering to gravity and slipping off the leaf. The drop loses its previous identity and joins the vastness of the earth or the water below. It must have trembled before it fell, just on the edge between the known and the unknown.

Pesach is a great time to look at our lives and see what we should and could let go of. Things that aren’t right for us anymore: could be our job, a relationship, a coat we once loved, or a favorite pair of jeans that have been too tight for a couple of years … anything that we thought helps define who we are but actually isn’t needed. Allowing for sadness to rise but not trying to hold on. When we let go of what isn't right anymore we make room for something greater that is waiting. We then get past the point of no return, and we can let gravity do its work. This is real Liberation!

Monthly Focus:
Healthy Shopping Cleaning Items

Passover is a time for both inner and outer cleaning. One of the goals in a health-supportive lifestyle is to decrease or eliminate our exposure to all unnecessary chemicals, whenever possible. An easy place to start is right under the kitchen sink with our home cleaning products. Many of the home cleaning ones contain extremely harsh chemicals, which can be toxic to us and our environment. There are alternatives.Ranging from floor cleaners to laundry detergent, from dish soap to paper towels, there are a range of environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, dye- and perfume-free products available in health food stores and even some supermarkets.
Key aspects and words to look for: biodegradable, hypoallergenic, unscented, eco-friendly, non-chlorine bleaches, weren’t tested on animals (look for the little rabbit symbol).

Keep all cleaning products in airtight containers and away from food and children. When replacing toxic cleaners with greener versions, be cautious of how you dispose of these chemicals, especially if you see key signal words such as "poison/danger," "warning" or "caution" on the labels.

Homemade Cleaning Ideas

In addition, there are many homemade cleaning product recipes, which can be less expensive, less harmful and just as effective, whether used alone or in combination.

baking soda: gentle, non-abrasive cleanser when sprinkled on a damp sponge; absorbs odors when placed in an open dish in the refrigerator, can be useful as an air freshener and carpet deodorizer.

soda water: similar to baking soda but more alkaline; it is great to cut grease, clean petroleum oil and for removing wax or lipstick.

white vinegar: very acidic, great for removing alkaline substances such as stains and buildup from hard water, dissolving gummy buildup, eating away tarnish and removing dirt from wood surfaces.

lemon juice: for whites, try adding 1/2 cup of strained lemon juice to the rinse cycle of a medium load of whites; it lightly bleaches the clothing, which is further enhanced when hung out to dry in the sun.

Tips:

Enjoy and use plants as a way to combat indoor air pollution. They’ve also been shown to balance humidity. Try to have at least one per room. Some suggested plants that are effective: areca palm, reed palm, dwarf date palm, Boston fern, Janet Craig dracaena, English ivy, Australian sword fern, peace lily, rubber plant and weeping fig.

Recycle clothes that are faded or stained - reinvent them by dyeing them with foods! Try heating a white shirt that has turned gray in a pot of beet juice or pomegranate juice.
