The impossible just takes a little longer. One stroke at a time, step by step, the impossible is easy to achieve.
Tori Murden

For years I have been using all kinds of different hair creams, mousses, gels, oils, masks, conditioners and so on. When I was 18, my boyfriend a good kibbutznik who also put a lot of gel on his hair, said to me: "If you continue with all that stuff you'll be bald before you know it!" I didn’t listen to him, or really think about it. Many years have now passed, and I'm certainly not bald, though he might be. I guess I have pretty good genes as all the women in our family seem to have a lot of hair. But recently I am starting to care, trying to use less chemicals on my body altogether. If we think about it, all these chemicals do get absorbed through our skin into our blood. A scary thought, don't you think? How healthy can that be?! So today, instead of body creams, I use pure coconut oil, which is amazing. I have been trying out different hair products too, discovering how nature provides us with so much. We just have to be more open to experimenting.

Leafy green vegetables and our mood

Spring is here again and it's that time of the year to start adding more leafy green vegetables into our diet: celery, parsley, coriander, dill, arugula, basil, kale, cabbage... They are in season and can be enjoyed in many ways. Notably, they are the most missing food in the typical diet.

Besides lettuce, what other leafy greens do you eat?
The leafy green vegetables are not only crammed with vitamins A, C, E and K, fiber, folic acid, and many other micronutrients that help with blood purification, cancer prevention and improved circulation, but they are also full of lifting energy. Think about it: they grow from the ground reaching up to the sun and sky. What energy would we get by eating them in abundance? Raw, steamed, stir-fried. In our salads, sandwiches, with our grains, in scrambled eggs ... experiment and see what works best for you.
The main thing is to notice if you feel lighter, happier and more energetic the more greens you eat. Using less artificial drugs we can let nature balance us.

Monthly Focus: Healthy Body Care Products

Easily remove unnecessary harsh chemicals and additives from your daily routine by using gentler, organic and even homemade body care products.
Each body will respond to different products in different ways. Give your body and its chemistry time to adjust to the change from conventional to more natural body care products. For example, when switching from a conventional antiperspirant to a natural deodorant, your body may go through a detoxifying phase where you will notice an increase in body scent. This is normal, and is your body’s way of releasing all that was blocked or suppressed by the heavy, chemical-based products. In time, your body will settle and acclimate to the new product and thank you for it! Look also for naturally based shampoos, conditioners, body creams and oils, facial products, toothpaste and soaps.

Switch up, for ourselves and the environment.

tips:

Many foods make wonderful skin and hair care products:
Coconut oil is wonderful to cook with, but it's also great as a dry skin remedy. Melt in your hands (though in the summer it is already soft) and smooth on as you would a body cream.

A ripe avocado can be delicious in a salad, but when mashed with a bit of olive oil, worked into the hair and left to set for 15 minutes, it also makes an amazing conditioner. (I actually didn't even rinse it off, though you might want to.)

Oats are not only tasty for breakfast but also help relieve dry-skin itch and heat rash when added to your bath water.

A few years back I met Amal, a beautiful Druse girl with dark, black, silky hair. I asked her what makes her hair is so healthy and shiny.

Here is Amal's natural hair mask:

Simmer a bunch of rosemary leaves in water for about 45 min, until the water turns red/purple.
Mix together well:

1/2 cup of the rosemary water
1/2 cup of olive oil
1-2 eggs (I recommend organic if possible)
1 teaspoon of honey
Rub into your hair. Cover your head with a plastic bag and leave on for about 30-60 minutes. Wash with shampoo.

Recipe of the month:
A rainbow salad with sprouts

Let the artist within you express itself and "paint" a salad, using as many colors as possible. Each pigment has different healing properties – once again, Nature's gift to us. Create your salad like a naive art painting. Try adding other raw or steamed vegetables, any fruits, or nuts too.

Suggested ingredients:

- Carrots
for the orange - using a peeler, create long strips by peeling down the entire length of the carrot. Slice remaining core into discs.
- Tomatoes and red peppers for the red.
- Lettuce varieties add many shades of green.
- Parsley/coriander/dill/basil/celery/beet greens - these leafy greens provide lifting light energy together with iron and calcium and colors of deep dark green.
- Purple Cabbage – for a dark deep purple, cut into strips.
- Freshly graded ginger – for a change… !
- And then throw in a lot of sprouts! There are many kinds, all delicious.

The dressing: olive oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, tumeric, cumin, cinnamon. I just pour straight from each bottle right onto the salad, sprinkle generously with spices, and toss it all together.

Remember to "Live Dangerously!"
and try some coconut oil on your skin,
avocado in your hair
and a sprig of parsley behind your ear (instead of a feather).

Green is the "IN" color!
